So it has now been nearly 5 months since we've arrived in fragrant Hong-Kong and made this vibrant city our new home base. We feel like time has passed really quickly and we have slipped into a new routine, which can only mean we finally have settled.
A visit to the dentist confirmed this as the clerk casually explained that usually, newcomers plan their first dental appointment only after everything else in their new lives was taken care of, making it the ultimate proof that they finally feel home.
We are indeed settled into a new routine except some things never do change: it is obviously part of our human nature to take our qualities and flaws around the world with us. I still cannot manage to do all I want into my daily allotment of 24 hours, especially now that new goals have added themselves quite naturally to the existing list: learning Chinese, discovering the diverse cultures around us, trying new types of cuisines, playing tourists in our new town and around Asia. Still, the old goals are still here, such as following up on the children's homework, cramming some music lessons into their already packed day yet keep some time aside for having fun and for playing. The more you work, the more you need to goof around at some point, to let the steam out.
